A Teacher's Role In Elementary Education

It is obvious that parents influence a baby's life substantially since they are with the baby constantly to begin with, but once that child reaches school age, the child spends more time with the teacher than with its' parents. This means that the teacher's role in elementary education is crucial for the success of the children. A teacher in elementary education needs to be enthusiastic about learning, full of encouragement for these young minds to learn, and to bring to the classroom their love of learning. We shall take a look more deeply into this now.

When a young child goes to preschool, kindergarten, or elementary school, it can be a traumatic experience for them. It may be the first time the child has been away from their parents for any length of time, and there may be many anxieties arising from this. So the teacher, before they can even begin their lessons for the day, may have to deal with all sorts of emotional problems. This calls for a patient teacher, one who is compassionate, and understanding, and not everyone has these qualities! In elementary education, the teacher needs to show confidence in all they do, with the ability to teach subjects in more than one way, since we all learn differently to one another. This is particularly true when it comes to math education. Math for some people is a hard topic to grasp, and the ability of a teacher to explain things in different ways is a great asset.

An elementary class may be assigned one teacher for the whole of the school year, and for many children this works well. However, some schools have two or more teachers working with two or more classes. In these situations, one teacher will be responsible for say all the math classes, while another may teach only music, and a third teaches everything else. This gets children used to having more than one teacher. It is also an advantage for the teacher who does not feel comfortable teaching music, say. If they are uncomfortable, then the chances are they will not do as good a job of teaching their class, which may result in those children not enjoying that topic, and this dislike could continue for years, making it harder for every teacher in the future.

So, the role of a teacher in elementary education is to be enthusiastic, loving, thoughtful and a joy to be with at all times, while teaching all subjects well, and to the best of their abilities. To instill the love of learning into these fresh young elementary school minds is indeed a valuable lesson learned.
