A career in elementary education can be a very rewarding form of employment, but first you have to like and appreciate children to take on this job! The life of an elementary school teacher can be very exhausting, as it is not a case of just turning up at school each day. There is a great deal of preparation that goes into a school day, The teacher is responsible for more than just the content of the day, and the continual recording of information, and more can be very debilitating. A teacher at this level is of course responsible for grading all work produced by the children, although at the elementary level it is much quicker to mark this work than for high school children! This may affect the training that you take for your career, so check carefully before you commit to the education. You do not want to end up having to take additional classes to make up for those you are short.

A career in elementary education now means using computers in the classroom for at least a part of a day. There are many programs available for teachers to use for teaching math, colors etc, using the computer, and it is a good idea to get children used to computers at an early age, since the chances of them needing a computer at the high school level is extremely high. Children encouraged to use computers at an early age are less likely to be afraid of them, and are more likely to be confident using them, and this can only be a good thing. Let's face it, computers are here to stay, so we may as well get used to them when we are young!
